For Theerapong Sae Fung, Thachpon Tanaratputithorn and Peerawit Sae Tang, an opportunity to take part in apenalty shoot-out competition against one of the world’s best goalkeepers was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Their dream became reality when the three, who were winners of the Big Cola sponsored local campaign Win A Penalty Shoot-out with Joe Hart, won a trip to Manchester to take part in the special event.
The campaign started back in September, with 20 lucky winners chosen to take penalties against Thailand and Chonburi FC goalkeeper Sinthaweechai Hathairatanakul at Chon Buri Stadium last November. Theerapong, 20, Thachpon, 25, and Peerawit, 17, were those who made it to the final stage.
In Manchester, the three Thais were up against six other participants from Indonesia and Vietnam, who were winners from their respective countries. It was Theerapong from Yala who beat England and Manchester City goalkeeper Hart and received the Big Cola Trophy.
Theerapong admitted that he was very nervous while taking his penalties against Hart but managed to keep his concentration throughout the whole proceeding.
Receiving the trophy from Manchester City legend Mike Summerbee during half-time of the Manchester derbyat Etihad Stadium on December 8 was another amazing moment, Theerapong added.
To top off the amazing weekend for the participants, they also attended a City and United match, where the Red Devils triumphed in a 3-2 thriller. The fans were full of passion all the way through to the last minutes of the game.
